To answer your question, yes I have marched in drum corp, I have played in bands, but no, I'm not a pro, I don't have an advanced degree in music, and I haven't won a drum solo contest. Most drummers who have done all those things would probably state that Neil Peart's main contribution is his popular appeal and the way he made a lot of people want to become drummers - not that he advanced the art of drumming much. A lot of the Neil Peart fan obsession probably comes from beginning drummers.

Honestly...I never really thought much of this song from the Harvest Album and the OVERBLOWN orchestra version he released...but THIS...this is utterly beautiful...the only thing that beats it is the Massey Hall performance AND NOT for the little Heart of Gold coda, but for the lyrical changes in the first chorus. They were much better left as he had written then and if you know what I mean then really this comment is for you...

And they get paid millions for getting up on stage feeling themselves, and lip syncing. They sing terribly. Neil Young plays harmonica, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, AND SINGS!!!! In Heart Of Gold live, he plays the harmonica, the acoustic guitar, AND sings at the same time. And he does better than anyone famous today. Rock on Nash, Young, and Clapton.

An artist can get inspiration from different sources, but that doesn't make the resulting art any less personal. It's one of those things that is difficult to describe. But then again, John was a complicated man so it makes sense that ADITL (at least his parts of it) would be personal to him. I also think it doesn't sound "right" to hear someone else singing it. JMO

Lol, personally I think A Day In The Life was the greatest song ever made, but I still prefer Lennon over Young, mostly because this was a very personal song for John. Young is amazing. The only thing that I can think would make this better (Bar having Lennon there) is having Jeff Beck on lead. BTW, does Young have an Australian Aborigine Flag shirt on? Win.
