Whittling a bird out of a creative block

I've been in a woodworking funk these past few weekends. Unable to really find an inspired project. So I decided to get a small chunk of wood and start whittling...somethin g I haven't done since I was a kid. It's an invigorating exercise! So if you are at a loss for something to do, try whittling! It's asy and requires nothing more than a pocket knife and a block of pine.

haha. Im glad I've subscribed. I really enjoy your "poor man" apprough, I do woodproject from time to time but nothing to big. I like your way of thinking more than a lot of other people, most people dont like to do anything, no matter what subject. You just try to get people to do some woodworking projects, what are awesome. @ndktube Excellent point. I'm going to guess that 99% of all woodworkers, like me, are hobbiests and are simply in it for fun. Most woodworking books, magazines, and tv shows seem to focus on elaborate projects and use really fancy tools that frankly, most of us can't justify or don't care to invest in.

Yes! Pressure from hand-tool purists isn't a problem as much as from the other direction--woodworkers who managed to land a sponsor trying to get you to buy tons of pricey gear. It's hard for a new ww to know from them what's really necessary and what ain't. See the wood whisperer's vids for example. It's corrupting and sucks a lot of the fun out of the tinkerer/casual hobbyist approach of knocking things together with whatever tools are at hand. Keep the faith Steve.

sorry not trying to be mean . but mounting a standard router on a router table is something you want to think about first.I have personally destroyed three routers. The reason why? because I didn't realize that the dust eventually works it's way into the motor bearings and it burns out. use dust removal and it helps to actually get a real table router. Or you'll just burn up your router eventually.

You could make the CD fit a lot better by offsetting the pin inward half the diameter of your router bit, so for a quarter inch bit you would move the pin towards the center of your intended circle an eigth of an inch. that way when you rout out the circle, the cd will fit just inside the recess. :)

Well of course you have to remain seated. What do you think you can do Stand up and strech? No The restraints locked for your own saftey. Most break downs only last a few minutes and I am sure you will live that long. You make fun of the staff of not knowing what to do when they no more about the ride than you think you do. Somebody just unpluged the ride! Um.. Ok Its called a glitch in operating systems it happens on every coaster. Oh btw taking cemeras on rides is against park rules

Captive audience! Are you actually locked into the car until somebody in the crew releases the seat belts? (Or whatever they are, not belts.) How do they release the belts? Otherwise seems like you could have just stepped out of the car and onto that walkway. They're not gonna make you get back into the car. There should be a way for people to unlock their own restraints, at least when the car isn't moving.

Oh,and I forgot to mention,that you also have to budget a lot of your time,to be able to do those projects,let alone have time to eat and work,and find yet more hours in a day to be able to sleep, So-yes,he was talented and very disciplined to have such a show,and still be so successful at what he did. You also have to love what you do in life,to succeed to be good at it. He will be missed.

If you have the money to buy the tools and gadgets,and have an excellant aptitude in math and plenty of patience,then you will be able to do a lot of these projects,that is if you have the discipline and yearning to tackle such projects,then it can be accomplished,but only,then. This Old House is another program to watch onPBS. Nova is another good program to view. Norm will be missed though,because he was very informative and entertaining,as well as educational.

I don't think Norm is out of business. I think it was a personal choice. If you watch his message on his website he doesn't seem sad about it at all, big smile on his face. After 21 years doing the show I'm sure he's starting to think semi-retirement.

Wow! You nailed it! (no pun intended). If Norm watches/reads this, I totally agree with the video. I watched him every weekend with my two daughters, 9 and 10. We knew the "safety speach" word for word. He will be greatly missed. My father and I watched him together for countless years and would (jokingly) curse him at how easily he made "it" look. Thank you for the memories Norm. You are/will be, sorely missed.
