My third chainsaw carving. Like the previous Tawny Owl this ... Posted by: Mueiwark
Video duration: 318 seconds My third chainsaw carving. Like the previous Tawny Owl this one came out of a big log of spalted Birch. Some minor errors aside, am happy with the end-result. Still don't have a smaller chainsaw as of yet, so I have to use my Dremel with engraving bits to finish it up. This carving was made in Hortus Haren, Netherlands. Removing a Large Uprooted Tree Posted by: Mueiwark
Video duration: 121 seconds This tree was toppled after a storm. It was partially supported by the trees around it and the rootplate. Removing these kinds of trees is a tricky business because there is a lot of tension inside the tree. Planning is needed before attempting to cut it down. Location: Hortus Haren, the Netherlands. Chainsaw Carving 2 - Small Owl Posted by: Mueiwark
Video duration: 90 seconds My second attempt at chainsaw carving. This time a small Tawny Owl out of some big pieces of Birch. A nice tough is that the wood is 'spalted', which results in some nice color patterns in the wood. I used pyrography (burning) on the eyes and feathers, and finished it with linseed oil. This carving was made in Hortus Haren, Netherlands Related: chainsaw, carving, carver, sculpting, sculptor, woodworking, artist, wood, whisperer, hortus, haren, wouter, art, beeldhouwen, project, tawny, owl, birch, spalted, kettingzaag, bomen, zagen, tuin, husqvarna, stihl, engraving, pyrography, shaping, tree, featured, how, to, linseed, tung, oil, finish Display Video Comments | Hide Video Comments | Add Comment |

Chainsaw Carving 1 - Alligator Posted by: Mueiwark
Video duration: 52 seconds My very first attempt at chainsaw carving. I had a big log at my disposal and after seeing some inspiring videos of people chainsaw carving I wanted to give it a try as well. The shape of the log was perfect for this alligator, and it turned out 'reasonably', considering that this was my first one.. This alligator was made in Hortus Haren, Netherlands. The Titanic Museum in Branson, Mo. will host its 3rd Annual Wood Carving event on Oct. 8-10, 2010. Have you heard of the LogHoggers? They are a huge group of wood carvers who travel the country!

There where some pieces of Berch lying around wich I could use. They where left in the rain for about half a year, wich give the typical fungee change to get into the wood. The black 'spalted' lines in the wood are the fungee strains. If you happen to sand it, wear a mask cause it's toxic.
